Bae Yong-joon’s New Drama Cancelled

BYJ.jpg

Bad news for fans anticipating his comeback: Bae Yong-joon’s drama Drops of God has been dropped due to several production issues. A source with the production company Keyeast, of which Bae is a major shareholder, said on December 5, “Even if the drama were to be produced, it would be difficult to keep up the level of quality.” Now Bae Yong-joon will have to push back his drama comeback, which would have been his first acting role since 2007’s Legend (Four Gods).

Bae Soo-bin to Star in the Historical Drama Dong Yi

baesoobin.jpgBrilliant Legacy fans are gonna flip: Bae Soo-bin will once again be teaming up with Han Hyo-joo in the historical drama Dong Yi. Bae is no stranger to the sageuk, having acted in Emperor of the Sea, Jumong, and Painter of the Wind. In Dong Yi, his role is described as “Bi-dam-like” as he portrays a masculine swordsman. He is the childhood friend to Dong-yi’s older brother, who asks him to take care of his sister before dying. He therefore watches over her throughout her life, loving her devotedly.
Bae intends to beginning martial arts and sword training in order to portray his character realistically. Having already performed in historical dramas, Bae has the basic skills such as equestrian experience and should be ready to begin immediately. Filming will begin in late January.

‘Iris’ Actor Covers New Ground in Supporting Role

Kim-Seung-Woo.jpgIt has been 20 years since actor Kim Seung-woo (Hotelier, Mr Duke) took up a career as an actor. He turned 40 this year, which means that he has lived half his life in the profession. In the meantime, Kim, who made his debut with the Korean action movie “The General’s Son” in 1990, has since grown into quite a heavyweight in the Korean acting world.

It is a commonly accepted theory that those nearing the peak of their careers are more likely to fall than to keep rising. Indeed, Kim’s box office record has remained lackluster in recent years. However, instead of marching along on the same path that brought him fame, Kim put his career on the line when he joined the cast of the hit KBS-2 drama “Iris.”

In the drama, Kim plays the role of Park Cheol-young, a high-ranking North Korean agent. It’s not the lead, but a supporting role, which is unusual for him.

"Everybody around me dissuaded me from doing it, but I felt like I should take the part. I was confident that there would be something I could show through this role even if there were not many scenes in which I was featured," Kim said.

Kim may have faced the doubts of his colleagues, but there was one person who encouraged him to take the part - his wife, actress Kim Nam-joo, who told Kim that the role was attractive enough for him to take a chance. (More)

Singer Ryu Si-won Kicks Off Tour in Japan

Ryu-Shi-Won.jpg

Korean actor-cum-singer Ryu Si-won (Secret, Truth, Sunlight Upon Me, Forever Yours) is celebrating the fifth anniversary of his debut in Japan.

The festivities coincided with the start of his concert tour “Jump: Ryu Siwon 5th Anniversary Live” last weekend at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo.

The tour, which has a capacity of 80,000 seats and continues to Nagoya, Yokohama and Osaka, is sold out, a sign of Ryu’s popularity there.

Ryu’s last tour of Japan with seven performances in three cities in 2007 was also sold out.
