Prayer
Ceremony for Personal Taste The production of MBC’s Personal Taste held its prayer ceremony this week, as you can see from these photos featuring the cast, namely Sohn Ye-jin (Alone in Love, Delicious Proposal), Lee Min-ho (Boys Over Flowers), Kim Ji-suk, and Wang Ji-hye. There have been a few comments in past threads so for the sake of clarification, the prayer ceremony isn’t a religious exercise, despite its name. It’s a common practice on film and drama sets and is often held in before filming begins or a drama premieres, to wish for good fortune and a safe production experience. The occasion was held in the Yangju Cultural Village, which houses one of the drama’s principal filming locations, the traditional Korean-style house where Sohn Ye-jin’s character lives, into which Lee Min-ho moves as her roommate. The home was built by the drama production specifically for the drama, and it figures significantly in the plot. During a fan meeting on Saturday, heartthrob actor Jang Dong-gun officially announced his wedding to actress Ko So-young, to take place at The Shilla hotel in central Seoul May 2. With preparations in full swing, most expect the top celebrity couple to go big and luxurious, right down to Ko’s wedding gown. “Jang was so intent on keeping this in the vault, so we hoped everyone would understand their situation,” said an unnamed spokesperson at the actor’s agency, AM Entertainment. With both 38 years old, giving birth to a child seems to be the next concern after they officially tie the knot. In Korean society, a woman having her first child at 35 or older is sometimes seen as risky. Hallyu heartthrob Jung Woo-sung and screen tough guy Cha Seung-won are set to spearhead the cast of the second installment of last year's KBS' hit TV series "Iris." The two actors will face off against one another with Jung as a secret service field operative hot on the heels of a terrorist cell led by Cha. According to the series' production company Taewon Entertainment, the spin-off titled "Athena" will be larger in scope and feature more action and heart-stopping plot twists, and will be filmed in exotic locations around Italy, Switzerland, Singapore, and New Zealand. Actor Kim Nam-gil has earned the right to be called the busiest actor of this year. After his role in the hit TV drama “Queen Seondeok,” which came to an end late last year, he narrated a documentary trilogy about people living in the Amazon, finished shooting for the film “Last Night,” which will be released next month, and toured countries including Indonesia, Japan and Las Vegas in preparation for a new TV drama that will air this May. He also published a book of essays and recorded a song that was released online. But life wasn’t always so glamorous for Kim. He was once an awkward 24-year-old newcomer with the stage name Lee Han, which he made up to give himself a more sophisticated image. (The name Nam-gil is considered to be somewhat old fashioned.) As Lee Han, Kim landed the role of the clueless young husband who dies in a car crash in the 10th episode of the TV drama “Be Strong Geum-soon,” which aired in February 2005. After his tragic hero role, Kim did six more dramas, playing mostly supporting roles, but he failed to leave a strong impression on viewers. The disc titled, “Dream in Japan,” consists of footage of the actor trying out things he has always wanted to do, including singing in Japanese. In an interview with Japan-based Sankei Sports on Tuesday, Kwon said, "Singing is one of the ways to get closer to my fans. I’ve always been jealous of Ryu Si-won, who has been doing nationwide tours in Japan." Kwon will sing the ballads “Missing” and “Tears for Love” at fan meetings at the Osaka International Convention Center and Tokyo International Forum on Feb. 24 and 27, respectively.
